Honda CRZ Sports Coupe Hybrid

2011 HONDA CRZ Coupe Hybrid - FINALLY A SPORTY HYBRID!

The showroom-ready CR-Z sport hybrid was officially unveiled to the press at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit Michigan. Although the weather was cold, the reception was anything but, for this unique new sport hybrid. With its striking low-slung profile, the CR-Z was arguably the most buzz-worthy debut at the show.

Honda has worked hard to bring a new hybrid to realization. One that not only gave you the performance we all want know-a-days, but delivered on great sporty looks..and an absolutely fun drive!! Introducing the all new 2011 Honda CRZ. Here are some of the specs and info on the CRZ...

As you may expect during the development of any new car, things can be pretty secretive. When the curtain is finally lifted for a new car debut, there is a feeling of extreme excitement. Reviews are coming in at a pretty amazing clip and so far the majority is WIN..WIN!!!

The CR-Z's arrival is significant simply because there's no other vehicle out there like it. It's a hybrid that doesn't drive or look like a typical hybrid. We can't wait to share more details and get more in-depth in the coming weeks and months on this site.

The CR-Z is a modern interpretation of traditional Honda themes- it's small, sporty and efficient

When you first drive the CR-Z, there aren't any obvious signs you're stepping into a "hybrid." It doesn't look like a typical hybrid from the exterior-its sleek, aerodynamic shape is very appealing. The interior features stylish black and aluminum style trim accents. The instrument panel illuminates with 3-dimensional gauges giving a futuristic, multi-layered appearance.

The CR-Z is powered by a 1.5-liter i-VTEC® engine with Honda's Integrated Motor Assist. Honda wanted to provide a personal driving experience, that's why we've included a 6-speed manual as the standard transmission. Even the available CVT version comes with paddle shifters for an added level of control.

To customize your driving experience, the CR-Z features an innovative 3- mode drive system (Sport/Normal/Econ). In "Sport" mode, the car's systems are enhanced for performance, meaning the steering is more responsive, and the engine becomes more energetic. In "Econ" mode, the car's systems are optimized for enhanced fuel efficiency. The electric motor assist gives priority to the air-conditioning system, helping reduce its overall load on the engine. "Normal" mode is a great compromise between the two, giving you a balanced level of performance and fuel economy.

Some background information on the ideas behind the design: There are a lot of different opinions and ideas flying around the Internet. And when it comes to the introduction of our new CR-Z, things are no different. We wouldn't have it any other way. We expected the CR-Z to generate a healthy debate. And we know there are many of you out there who are as passionate and as opinionated about cars as we are.

That said, the CR-Z is an impressive little car. We're proud of it and very much looking forward to late summer when you'll get a chance to drive it. But, for now, we think the conversation can benefit from some information we're in a position to provide.

The MPG Conundrum: When we first set out to design the CR-Z, we demanded it be a hybrid. If it was going to be the next-generation coupe, it had to be a hybrid. But our goal was to make it a hybrid that's more fun.

The mileage numbers we released-an estimated 36 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway-are projections of the future EPA mileage estimates. The CR-Z has three driving modes: Sport, Normal and ECON?. Our numbers were achieved with the CR-Z in Normal Mode. Which is the default mode and will be how the EPA tests the car. Driving the CR-Z in ECON mode typically delivers the best fuel economy of the three modes.
